Welcome to the Kirby Canyon Recycling & Disposal Facility

Located among the rolling hills of southern Santa Clara County, Kirby Canyon Recycling & Disposal Facility is a model site. Engineered to protect the air, surface and groundwater, it utilizes state-of-the-art liners, leachate collection, groundwater monitoring and landfill gas collection and control systems. Kirby Canyon meets or exceeds all federal, state and local regulations.
Further distinguishing the facility is its preservation of one of the Bay Area’s few remaining serpentine-soil grassland ecosystems. Kirby Canyon is home to the largest population of the federally-listed Bay Checkerspot butterfly. Under the 1986 Kirby Canyon Conversation Agreement, Waste Management acts as the guardian of this unique ecosystem that also includes the rare jewel flower, Santa Clara Valley Dudleya, and the threatened California Red-legged frog.
